Please read these terms carefully before using DM Companion.

1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using DM Companion ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Description of Service
DM Companion is a free, web-based toolkit for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Dungeon Masters. It provides campaign management, session notes, location and map management, initiative tracking, encounter building, dice rolling, spell/bestiary/item reference, NPC/creature/tavern/market/loot generators, character sheets, and other tabletop RPG utilities.
DM Companion is a fan-made tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast, Hasbro, or any official D&D publisher.
3. User Accounts
- You must sign in via Google or GitHub to create an account. No passwords are stored by DM Companion — authentication is managed entirely by your chosen provider.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the App.
- One person may not maintain more than one account.
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
4. User Content
You retain ownership of all content you create in the App, including campaign notes, character data, session logs, and map notes ("User Content").
- You are solely responsible for the content you create and store.
- You must not use the App to store or distribute illegal, harmful, or infringing content.
- We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your User Content.
- We do not monitor, review, or moderate User Content.
5. D&D Content and Intellectual Property
The App references game mechanics, spells, monsters, and rules from the D&D 5th Edition Systems Reference Document (SRD), which is published under the Open Gaming License (OGL) v1.0a and Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) by Wizards of the Coast.
- All D&D-related content remains the property of Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro.
- The App uses only SRD content that is freely available for use under the OGL/CC BY 4.0.
- Dungeons & Dragons, D&D, and all related trademarks are property of Wizards of the Coast.
6. Acceptable Use
When using the App, you agree not to:
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' data or accounts
- Use the App to distribute malware, spam, or malicious content
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code (the App is open-source — just read the repo)
- Use automated scripts or bots to interact with the App in a way that degrades service for other users
- Misrepresent your identity or impersonate another person
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
7. Data Storage and Availability
- Your data is stored using Supabase (server-side) and your browser's localStorage (client-side). Location data, map data, character sheets, and encounter state are stored locally. See our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy for details.
- We make reasonable efforts to keep the App available, but do not guarantee uninterrupted access.
- We are not responsible for data loss caused by browser storage clearing, device changes, or service outages.
- You are encouraged to keep your own backups of important campaign data. You can export all your data using the Export Data button in your profile menu.
8. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, each with their own terms:
- Supabase — Database and authentication
- Open5e API — D&D 5e reference data
- D&D 5e API — D&D 5e reference data
- GitHub Pages — Static hosting
We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or policies of these third-party services.
9. Disclaimers
- The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- We do not warrant that the App will be error-free, secure, or available at all times.
- Game rules and reference data are provided for convenience and may contain errors. Always defer to official published materials for rules disputes.
- Random generators (NPCs, loot, taverns, etc.) produce fictional content for entertainment purposes only.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, DM Companion and its developer(s) shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or interruption of service, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App.
11. Termination
- You may stop using the App at any time.
- You may delete your account and all associated data at any time using the Delete Account button in your profile menu, or by contacting us (see below).
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
13. Governing Law
These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the App shall be resolved through good-faith discussion before pursuing formal proceedings.
